La Gloire de mon Pere
Right in the middle of Seillans in a small, but attractive square. La Gloire de mon Pere is nested in a corner under a large plane tree, next to the old lavanderie. We went there on a rainy day and had a very pleasant fixed price menu: local cuisine, simply and well excuted.
From memory, the menu came it a ca. 30 euros. Service was good, decor attractive. Highly recommended by our friends from Seillans (it would be their closest restaurant).
Le Relais d'Olea
Almost opposite "La Gloire de mon Pere" in Seillans is the much trumpeted Relais d'Olea. Cheffed by Hermance Carro (daughter of Alain Carro, the chef of michelin-starrer Le Castelleras), it received a reasonable amount of publicity because of her appearance in French TV's Madame Le Chef. Provencal cuisine, interestingly and well presented. I think when the Olea opened, it came across as over-hyped and pricey, but appears to have settled at the 25-30 Euros mark. Hermance also operates a foodie store next to the Olea which sells wine, local goodies and her book: I was dead chuffed when Hermance signed my copy.

Love Provence! Love the films La Gloire de mon Pere and Le Chateau de Ma mere that lead me there! The entire Cote d'Azur is so so so ..... breathtaking. A place you don't wanna miss! Rent a car and drove along the "cote" ..... Quel merveil!

We found La Gloire de mon Pere most unsatisfactory. We had ordered 4 x the 28 Euro menu and 2 x a la carte. The squid was over-salted, the steaks were not fillet but very tough strange cuts of beef. The frogs' legs a la provencale were not served with tomatoes and when we questioned the manager, he told us that a la provencale was a dish with butter and parsley (if it had been that, it would have been better than the simply deep fried frogs' legs...). The manager would not accept any of our comments 'You have a different taste', he told us. In the end we paid just for what we had eaten BUT were charged the a la carte prices for the starters which had been part of the 28 Euro menu - not good at all.
