About Montauroux

Provencal mas in Mons

provencal mas in MonsWe are thrilled with this painting that Vicky Claringbold, our neighbour in London, painted of our holiday home nr. Mons in Provence.

This is the view from under the two large olives at the front of the house.

Mons casse-cul

Mons streetMons in Provence has some entertainingly curious and charming street names. Most of the streets aren't big enough to be called streets, so we run with "ruelles". Many of them get local Patois names as well as French.

This is our favourite. Our literal translation would be "break your behind street" - it's steep and narrow. Our best-guess, functional translation would be "mind your a*se".

Mons luxury appartments

We're thrilled that our friend Arja who has lovingly converted the Signeur of Mons' townhouse into luxury appartments is being plugged by the NY Times. Second only to Leslie Caron.

Mons in the Mistral

Mons_mistralProvence has had a lot of Mistral recently - it was too nippy to eat outside in the evening. However, the wind did do a great job of clearing out the skies, leaving them their best cobalt blue.

Up in Mons (north of Fayence), we had some great sky effects: small wispy clouds being whipped up in spectacular fashion.

Mons

Mons - what a history! Decimated by plagues, locusts, severe winters and avenging Dukes, Mons and its 1,000+ inhabitants have stuck it out since Roman times. Now, Mons is billed as the "jewel of the Varois". Enjoy the story.

Dog in Mons

Dog in mons in hammock

Dogs love Mons en Provence, especially in hammocks.

The dog is Mackintosh, the reader is Annabelle and the book is Jennifer Government (a recommended read).

"Cueillez des'aujourdhui les roses de la vie," as Ronsard used to croon.

Number One Mons

How exciting! Number One Mons is open for business. I have seen Arja's vision grow, bloom and become reality for these gorgeous, luxury apartments in the heart of one the few truly unspoiled villages in Provence. The property blends the architectural magnificence of an 18thC town-mansion with modern designs and materials. And when you're peckish, you can nip into the Petit Bonheur.

Don't trust me, visit the site! Then rent one.

Stunning view from Mons, Provence

Mons, Provence

The locals claim you can see Corsica on a clear day and I have seen a picture to prove it. Mons is at 850m above sea level, so the views are spectacular: the shopping in Mons will not appeal. Enjoy!
