I have mistakenly overlooked Callian as a village. Partly because it does not boast any classy restaurants or obvious tourist attractions. Well, there is a castle, but it's been converted into rental properties.
My reason for upgrading Callian is simply that it is a "nice" place. Great for a wander, a coffee in the square by the waterfall, a few shops (including a new Petit Casino). It's on a great perched location, looks fantastic from a distance (especially from Montauroux). Callian is the perfect offset to the larger and more commercial Fayence and the somewhat dry Montauroux.
I think I just liked my over-priced cafe creme in the square and was pleased to run into Emmanuel who has a place nearby and the very affable M. Arnault who clears the land. He was buying his baguettes in the town's sole baker.
